Hi Tony, re: "I think i know a little about reliability, failure modes, etc. myself."

Any thoughts on how to evaluate a possibly bad HDD or should I just take the route of seeking a replacement from Fujitsu? Removing the drive from the system has resulted in stable operations under 100% CPU load for 15+ hours. After prior crashes (which took 3-4 hours of operation to precipitate), the system was unable to find the HDD during startup so this seems to be the clear source of the problem. I do plan to try the system with the suspect drive as a secondary drive to see if the drive will disappear after a couple of hours or cause a system crash.
