yes, I am sorry. I guess i meant to say progressive enough.

I have trouble when the govt tries to steal from the rich and give to the poor....the rich lose incentive to generate capital and opportunities. I saw that happening in Australia.

......but eventually, if the rate is not progressive enough, the whole society pays for it by way of increase in crime and lawlessness. Of course there is a balance. Like I said, you may have thought thru it more than myself....mine are just some off the cuff thoughts...

I think US has some great tax slabs fwiw. Sure they can be lifted higher....and as Jorj just informed me - Jorjio is always right ! lol

You have a point about consumption tax being just as progressive as a flat taxation system. But see comsumption tax on bread and roads may really be fixed, but trips to Fifth Avenue and Tiffany's and those vacations at Disney and Hawaii would ensure a good return to the govt....
