IGIT, I will be totally honest with you... your objections make no sense whatsoever, at least not to me... they are equal to "not wanting to accept" that some verses of the Qur'an are applicable only to specific circumstances that happened 1500 years ago or so... true, if a similar situation ever arises, they can be used as guidelines...

this "not wanting to accept" is what makes someone like me question the ulterior motives of the other person... in this case, you... for they translate basically to one of two things... (1) that you truly do not like the Qur'an one bit, hence unable to look at it with an unbiased view, and simply do not want to accept any explanation of it other than what makes ugly (2) you simply want to cast some shadows over any given explanation.

IGIT, please understand, I am not necessarily saying that you have to be one or the other, I am just letting you know what comes to my mind when I see similar arguments. You may say that I am biased to Qur'an... SURE... I believe that God is Most Merciful and Most Gracious... hence, I can not comprehend the idea when someone claims that the Qur'an, the word of God, promotes violence and terrorism.

as for the game "telephone"... a game is a game and is surely different from compiling a book based on authenticated sources that go back to the Prophet's (pbuh) time... that is what I believe.

regards
amein

To the thread:

I wanted to break up these serious discussion with some humor (some have tried before to do this as well):

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in bed.

She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter, dear?", she whispers as she steps into the room," Why are you down here at this time of night?"

The husband looks up from his coffee, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we were dating, and you were only 16?" he asks solemnly.

"Yes I do" she replies. The husband paused. The words were not coming easily.

"Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?"

"Yes, I remember" said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continued.. "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or I'll send you to jail for 20 years?'"

"I remember that too" she replied softly.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said, "I would have gotten out today".

I'll try to continue only on the subject matter. I was inspired to try to break it up a little bit!

God Bless,
IGIT
