This year the market has gone sideways. I have several accounts from which I trade. My long term buy and hold account represents 35% of my holdings as of today.

The LTBH account is up 4.94% as of today. My largest swing trade account is up 45.11%, while my smallest is up 115%. All this is YTD.

So this past year LTBH has gone nowhere, while the trade accounts are up significantly with mostly cash right now 46%.

So even if tax is considered trading this past year was better than LTHB.

Good luck.

Stan

kdavy, IMO there should be no debate between ST and LTBH strategies. Each method can be effective or ineffective depending on the individual.

(Besides, everyone knows that short-term dark-side trading is the only way to make money in the market!) <g>

Seriously and FWIW, while I focus primarily on ST trading here on this thread, I actually have the vast majority of my assets allocated to conservative LTBH investments.
