I had been confused about what the doctors were telling me. (And it seems that my sister misread what I had written here, so I probably did not express myself very well) What I do understand at this point is that, the kidney failure is a result of the diabetes. It is not related to anything that would show up on a sonogram relating to the size or structure of the kidneys. But that the kidneys are failing.

I am going to do some more searching on the net to find information to help me understand all of this...
