Do you remember Claire Sterling, author of.... I believe it was "The Terror Network"? I used to have her book around here somewhere. She was an excellent researcher, did a lot of writing in the 80's on various terrorist organizations operating around the world.

I recall being surprised to learn that the IRA had a strong marxist element in its leadership. They despised the Irish government as much as they did the British rule in Ulster. Their writings revealed that they hoped to destabilize the whole island, and create a "Cuba of the Atlantic". They were simply throwing gasoline on the long simmering resentments in Ulster as a vehicle for igniting a revolution. They also had contacts with Qadafi, to procure arms and explosives. They didn't share any ideology with him, other than a hatred of the West and a partnership in terror.

CNBC just said that the cost of Super Bowl ads went down for the second year in a row.

(They are still extremely expensive, of course ...)

Jon.

Hi Mq-

I may have mentioned that one of the IRA supporters I knew died recently, so he's no longer any worry to you.

The other one I don't see any more, so I can't say for sure, but he was notoriously tight with money, so I can't imagine he gave much money to them, if any.

My husband's family is Orange men, and I do have a tiny bit of Irish ancestry but identify more with Cajuns.

Edit: grub.
