There are many words of wisdom spoken here. I use the following examples when I teach teachers in graduate school.

And once again, all hope withers that a diverse nation can discuss its way past the black and white and into the shades of gray.

I always wear a gray outfit for my opening classes. I want all my students to know that in education, there is no black/white...

Too often, we pair the person who demands "no" with the person who shrieks "yes" and avoid the people who say "I don't know."

All students are given 2 pennies at the start of class and know that their "two cents" is valued.

The First Amendment guarantees our right to speak, but it also imposes a duty to listen.

All teachers and parents hopefully know this.

Listen.... every voice deserves to be heard. And none of them should ever have to beg to differ.

The classroom and the family dinner table! are a good place to start. (And, of course, kids and parents need to eat dinner together!)

Thanks, HG and Kate!
