The material and equipment supply center is expected to begin operating next Monday. In order to provide better service to its customers, Applied Materials, the largest semiconductor material and equipment supplier in the world, will set up material and equipment supply centers in North America, Asia, and Europe. The first material and equipment supply center of the company began operating in October in Kentucky. The Taoyuan material and equipment supply center of Applied Materials is the second logistic center of the company and the first outside of the U.S. James Morgan, chairman and chief executive officer of Applied Materials, will come to Taiwan and preside over the opening ceremony. The move demonstrated the importance of the Taiwan market and its commitment to the Asia and Pacific market. The third logistic center of Applied Materials will be set up in Frankfurt. The three logistic centers will build up the company's worldwide components, materials, and equipment service network, which will respond to customers' inquiries in six seconds. The computerized component service system will be able to tell a customer where a component is stocked. Such service was made possible in the past by using telephone calls. The service will greatly improve the company's service efficiency and reduce the downtime of its customers.
