Albert, the article below gives some substance to rumors that Intel has been doing better than expected this quarter. According IBD, the stock has an A rating and is under heavy accumulation...first time this year.

Furthermore, D. Niles has been really bearish on the chip sector up until this fairly small upgrade in Intel's EPS for the quarter. I think its due more to Dell's taking market share than the P4 being a must have chip.

By TSC Staff

Intel (INTC:Nasdaq) was lower in the premarket after a report said it's having trouble meeting demand for its Pentium 4 microprocessor.

An Intel spokeswoman told Bloomberg the company is "trying to remedy the tight situation this quarter."

The chipmaker has slashed the Pentium 4's price by 84% in its first year as it contends with a big slump in computer demand.

I have never seen a competent report from an analyst, but these reports are useful for an occasional scoop. Since they serve as guiding lights for the masses, a winning strategy could be to do just the contrary to the recommendations. Unfortunately, these reports are so muddled, it is hard to figure out what "the contrary" means.
