I know why the US funded the fight against the Russians, but we where not funding OBL he had his own money and he wasn't killing Americans back in the 80s. If you stick with the implication that we funded his later terrorist actions I think why is a fair question to ask.

The U.S. was willing to back anyone and everyone who opposed the Soviet Union. That was our anti-Communist jihad.
