A newborn baby is the very essence of human innocence. So is a newborn kitten. I don't like the idea of surplus kittens being gassed or drowned. One thing that gets lost in these discussions is I and any of the progressive people I know would prefer alternatives to abortion such as birth control, or to engage in abortion at the earliest possible times. Most on the right would rather deal with the most shocking and gruesome aspects no matter how rare and necessary they may be. It is a sad fact that abortions are less likely to become rare when the whole concept is under attack than when resonable effort is made to make them rare and unnecessary. TP
