I'm not for a complex solution. I'm for wiping the slate clean and starting over, without trying to play the "blame game" about who "created" the Taliban or Bin Laden.

I certainly could care less about trying to salvage the "good" Taliban, or those Pakistanis who might have been foolish enough to join them.

Complexity would involve being overly worried about ruffling the feathers of certain "allies", or nations in the region.

And I'm not going to lose sleep over whether the Russians gain the diplomatic upper hand over controlling the N. Alliance. Certainly since such control then places the onus upon Putin to care for the starving Afghani people... something that will be tough when he has a difficult enough time feeding his own.

And I'm not going to lose sleep over whether India and Pakistan go after one another, or whether this destabilizes Musharraf's regime in favor of radical religious elements there.

I certainly don't want to unecessarily exacerbate those problems, but I'm not willing to see the US permit those issues dilute our resolve to destroy those who have attacked us.

Of course, I'm sure I'm just living in a fantasy by proposing such a perspective. But my point is that with any such exercise of military and diplomatic power, unforseen repercussions will always result. And some politicians will vacillate rather than making a decision and acting upon it.

The world may become far more unstable as a result of the US actions in this "war on terror", but we can't permit our resolve to be undermined by such fears.
