DSL SERVICE-CANCELLED!
I had DSL service from SBC/Ameritech for eight days, and then I cancelled it on the eighth day.

First of all, fax machines and fax computer software will not operate on a DSL line/DSL modem. I contacted Symantec to determine if a DSL operable fax software was available, and I was told that their fax software will not function with DSL. Furthermore, there are no plans to develop DSL compatible software. If you had intentions to cancel a second line, you cannot do that if you intend to send/receive faxes.

Secondly, special filters, provided with the Alcatel modem, must be installed on all of you phone extensions. DSL adversely affects caller ID devices, answering machines, etc.

Thirdly, when the service works, it works very well. When it does not work, which was often, be prepared to spend a great deal of time with DSL technicians. The service stalls, and it stalls, and it stalls.

I FINALLY CANCELLED IT!!!! DSL WAS A ROYAL PAIN!!!!!!!!!

To return the modem, this is funny, there is a pre-printed return slip for UPS, therefore there is no shipping charges. But I can't yet return the modem, but it takes two weeks to change from the DSL line back to the regular line and the filters need to remain installed.

My current 56k modem/line functions very well. I will wait for the next generation of DSL, if there is a next generation. DSL SUCKS!!!!!!
