>> TimesTen Supplies In-Memory Database To Nokia Networks

TimesTen Performance Software announced on Monday that Nokia Networks had selected the company's real-time data management software to embed within future wireless infrastructure products.

Nokia Networks will use the TimesTen in-memory database for time-critical network data management functions, where it can be used by a range of network elements and value-added 3G applications.

TimesTen said it was chosen for its combination of real-time performance and scalability, adherence to open standards, lightweight embeddability, and very high availability. The company said its track record with next-generation network providers, and its leadership in standards-based in-memory database technology were major factors in the selection.

"Speed of innovation and cost-effective delivery of new mobile communications solutions are what keep Nokia in the lead," Matti Airas, Director, Network Platforms of Nokia Networks, was quoted in a press release. "We are always looking for key technologies like TimesTen that will give us multiple advantages. TimesTen delivers the power of a deep, custom-built solution, with all the flexibility of industry standards."

James R. Groff, CEO of TimesTen Performance Software, was cited as saying: "Innovative new wireless infrastructures will have to cope with unprecedented volumes of data, and support intelligent, data-driven services in sub-seconds. Everything is happening in real-time and is extremely data-intensive - making real-time data management essential for these infrastructures." <<

>> TimesTen Expands Through Sweden Into Europe

TimesTen Performance Software of Mountain View, California, is moving further into Europe and appears to be increasingly active in the Scandinavian cellular infrastructure performance market.

After its London office, its first foreign bridgehead, the company has now opened an office in Stockholm, and is expecting to expand its presence into Germany in Q3 2001, and into France in Q1 2002. Last month, it announced two supply deals for Ericsson, as well as a three-year strategic agreement with Tecnomen Corporation of Espoo. The two deals with Ericsson involve the delivery of capacity enhancing software for the Swedish infrastructure builder's pre-paid GSM services, and for Ericsson's AAA server, a key component of its WISE portal for GPRS and 3G network services.

TimesTen stated that Ericsson selected its in-memory database for its ability to enable real-time processing of pre-pay transactions, while supporting subscriber bases of up to ten million users. The company anticipates strong growth in off-the-shelf performance products, since infrastructure vendors are increasingly choosing 'best of breed' components rather than committing themselves to the large investments involved with building and maintaining these components internally.

Ericsson's AAA server for its WISE portal provides mobile operators with the ability to authenticate end users, to authorize services, to account for service usage and network access, and it handles IP address assignment to GPRS terminals. TimesTen said that its in-memory database allows for faster deployment of personalized portal services to end users.

The company closed a three-year deal for the integration of TimesTen into Tecnomen Corporation's 'Intelligent Network Platform', which should allow it to increase the number of calls processed per second, and thus create greater network capacity. It will be used within Tecnomen's pre-paid system and mailbox location register. Tecnomen, part of the Kyro Group, develops and markets messaging systems, wireless Internet solutions, and pre-paid and paging systems for telecom operators and service providers. <<
