Jon, you are being too kind to the service providers. <Those stupid @$$#*!* service providers...>They in fact could pay less than 47c per minute. AirTouch had [about] a 35c special price, being a lead service provider stumping up support early on.

Whatever the contracted prices, provision was made in the contracts for mutual price reductions if necessary. But the service providers never asked for those discounts. But Globalstar gave some anyway [which were ignored]. Remember the $15 million or thereabouts which were available in early Y2K.

Incidentally, rumour has it that Vodafone Australia is in big trouble due to useless marketing [not just in the Globalstar part of their business] and might pull out. They are doing fine in NZ, but the whole thing could be sold as a going concern. I should put in an offer for Globalstar Australia assets and supply myself Globalstar service in New Zealand [Dubbo can cover a good chunk of NZ most of the time] and make a lot of money in Australia. 3 operating gateways! Wow! That can provide a lot of service. They are currently charging absurdly high prices for minutes and handsets [and not even selling the good QUALCOMM handsets, just to show how hopeless they are].

>>>The huge secret that will change New G* is ..........................
Those stupid @$$#*!* service providers (SPs) will be eliminated out of the pricing scheme.
<<<

Ohh, happy day!!!

I also suspect the sat phone thing will be a side event, not the main course in the new G*...I still say data (like I said 4 years ago) will be the main course...
