re:It's that marriage thing that gets in the way. Oh well. You may be right that grad school has a better atmosphere

I think you're right on both counts....(ggg)

As to the grad school atmosphere, we had a wonderful experience one year while my son was in grad school. He asked one Thanksgiving if he could bring a few friends home who couldn't get home for the holiday. A few turned out to be 17. Had them from all over Europe, Central America, S. America, and one from Ghana. None had ever experienced a traditional American Thanksgiving. What was very cute was after the meal we asked everyone to say something about Thanksgiving in a language different from their native tongue. The foreign students had no difficulty except we said that once a language was used they couldn't reuse it. Incredibly everyone except we Americans managed to say something....oh, yea I did remember a German phrase I learned in college and my wife and daughter did the same with French but we couldn't converse like the others could. Later on a couple of Brits went for a walk on the golf course behind our house and came back all excited because they had seen some wild turkeys....I had never seen any myself to that point(they're very common now) but I think our visitors were convinced we planted them there.

re:experiences are the same as mine in that the technical environment is the greatest example of people of different races and backgrounds coming together to produce a product and that you are valued for what you bring to the table not your group.

Agree again 100%

I'm off for the night....
