If they allowed a virus to effect them

Yes, that's pretty weak, particuliarly for what they charge. They sure keep cranking up the monthly. Twice since I started, but as I said...no problems here yet.

Where in OH? I grew up in Toledo, college in Cinci and wife is from Columbus. Don't miss those grey OH winters. -g-

Somebody in this discussion of broadband ISP's mentioned getting a dish. Though I might help out and let you know about them. I have Starband internet. They were awfull. I had to figure out myself to load Win2000 on my computer so it could take all the junk the satellite was feeding it. My win98 was crashing all the time with the junk the satellite was feeding it. Then they changed the modem to a "new" one. Had problems. Their software put all kinds of conflicting drivers and commands on my computer till it finally showed a hardware failure. Ended up having to wipe the hard drive clean and reloading the operating software on it. One month ago, I still woud have told you to forget satellite. However, Dish Network has bought into Starband. Dish has become very involved with the customer service tech help. The tech help is now astronomically better than it was. You may still have problems setting it up. May have some problems with service. But it does work. And from what I've read here, most the time it works as good or better than most. It doesn't do streaming audio and video worth a darn. It can't get the timing between the two down. Just audio is pretty good. Recorded audio video doesn't do too bad either. It is tough to use with networking as I understand. However they now say you can do networking with no problem. I have a hard time believing them. Otherwise it is a lot better than my alternatives. I came extremely close to dumping it and my dish TV along with it. I believe Dish's involvement has probably saved me as a customer.
