Hi Carl,

Thanks for the comments. You're very close to the crux of the matter. It has nothing to do with stumpage or costs or interest etc. It has to do with the minority special interest groups trying to turn this into a political, patriotic thing for their benefits.

The losers in the US are the consumers who end up paying more for their new homes, renovations etc. If the price of lumber goes up, it isn't hard to figure out that the excess profits end up in these special interest group hands. But they are professional lobbyists and they skillfully beat the drum and wave the flag and deflect the real issues.

Canada has won every time it has fought this in the international arena and it can again. It is just a pity that it needs to come to that.
