When you're dealing with religion-crazed suicidal fanatics? Yes. However, I would limit "special treatment" to them. I think the US should now make it perfectly clear to the Northen Alliance that they will either agree to a UN (hopefully with a large Islamic fraction) peacekeeping/police force or they will be the next recipients of our aerial gifts- -the exploding kind. We should make it clear to them we will not tolerate the kind of "government" they delivered the last time they were in power. And that should be followed by a mini-Marshall Plan to remove the lack of opportunity, illiteracy, and poverty that made Afghanistan such a nice home for OBL. And that, if successful, would probably pull the teeth of Islamic fundamentalism. Because the people of the Arab and Islamic countries, if given a choice between poverty, religious extremism, and martyrdom or a decent life, will know which to choose.
