Israel's success is indeed a point indicating that the Arab nations have not put their houses in order, BUT to acknowledge this, it is important to state that they are mostly a Third-world mindset, coming out of colonialism themselves, unfamiliar with Western finance and technology and the Israelis are very much Western, with full support of financial, technology, and military resources, which defines a colony.

You're right that the Arabs have a different mind set, len. The Israelis face facts; the Arabs build castles in the air, then become the prisoners of those castles (Bernard Lewis). The Arabs are ruling themselves for the first time in centuries -- before the British were the Turks -- and they are doing a piss-poor job of it.

For eighty years the Arabs have pursued a nationalism that scorns the pragmatist who weighs what can be done among nations, and fights and maneuvers and negotiates for the best deal. The Arabs have honored only the maximalist, who pursues ruinous campaigns in the quest of an impossible goal. They are paying the price of their own idiocy, and are still howling and blaming everybody but themselves for the mess they're in. It's well past time they grew up.
