Re : "No, these united states are a "constitutional republic." If you have not encountered this definition, the Web has ample resources."

You are probably technically correct. But I do not emphasis too much on being technically correct, as far as the general point is made. It seems like you did get my general point. no ? More importantly, I hope Mary gets my point.

Re : "No, we do NOT have rules in these united states about protecting people from having their feelings hurt."

No, we dont have to have rules in the constitution to follow. 99% percent of the life, IMO, is lived in the grey area and we all have our interpretation and values around it. There is no law against not offering a seat in bus to an elderly or pragnant lady. There is no law against ignoring a sick friend or family member, etc. And yet we do that (and I am certain you do too). There is no law against a manager who yells at the team members. And yet it frequently shows up on their performance review, even if the team objectives are achieved.

Re : "Did you not absorb this basic point at an early enough age?"
I absorbed many things at an early age. One of them being, as I get older, things are not as black and white as they seemed when I was younger. There is not just one truth, but many truths (exceptions : math and logic design). A constitution doesn't need to tell me what is right from wrong. As I absorbed this truth and started acting on it, I began to connect with and understand many more people (especially the ones who seem to be in touch with their feelings) and started getting in touch with my vulnerable side. It was a harsh experience, but am a lot better for it.

Re : "Not so different...trust me."
I find that hard to believe.

I hear you views on 'moderation'. But thats the case of extreme 'moderation'. A case of extreme 'non-moderation' is the yahoo thread. Do you like that ?

Do you not like the SI Intel thread ? Even that is moderated (by SI rules). It seems like, it not that you dont like moderation, but that you either dont like the high level of moderation and/or the way a moderator moderates.
