I have considered the same idea. I wonder if it has a flaw.

All the vertical studs could be compression grade timber. Make them 2x6 on 16 inch centers. As to the rot problem it could easily be cured with a Borax treatment after the house has been built. This would cost about 300 bucks and as long as the wood stays dry it stops all the ant and termite problems for hundreds of years. Even fully emersed in water the treatment will stay in the timber for 3 years before leaching out.
The treatment has been known for over a hundred years and to date is not toxic to anything as far as we know. The borax screws up the microbes that help digest cellulose.
