So you must be thinking of another country.sg.news.yahoo.com When an election is won by one party by such a vast majority, it is obvious that the public is very happy with what they do, unlike in the USA where people are so disaffected that a minority bothers voting and the votes are split so close that the court appoints the winner. Singapore could therefore be said to better represent what people want than the USA does [current Bush polls notwithstanding]. I think Americans figure Singapore is not a democracy because graffiti, mass murder by school students, and other stuff such as Time Magazine and other pornography are not allowed [if I remember rightly, an edition of Time was banned for some reason several years ago]. Caning is used to discourage anti-social behaviour. An American rich kid punk was caned for graffiti - good job! Equal before the law, despite President Clinton asking for a wet bus ticket beating instead. Personally, I prefer the free and easy Kiwi way of life [which is increasingly as cloistered as that in Singapore] to either the Singapore or 'pretend and chant we are free but for god's sake don't do anything out of line' USA styles. We don't even have a written constitution! We just have a kind of general agreement that things should be pleasant which means we all argue with each other and make fun of each other and generally behave like a family feud around the Xmas table. Heck, even the USA doesn't have their leaders chosen by the people. It's done by political parties, electoral colleges and the Supreme Court [which of course voted for their friends in a split decision which showed it wasn't a clear cut chad]. My father's more democratic than your father, Mqurice
