Hi, elmat - Back when I first PM'd you about the use of RLANs in telephony, you were sceptical. Now you are considerably more enthusiastic.

Now, I'm a little more sceptical. I can see several trends that argue for the inclusion of voice, not least of which is the repeated assertion that data, alone, is not enough for the commercial success of RLANs. There must be voice.

Okay, we know it's doable. We know that the universal adoption of IPv6 will enable anybody to reach anybody (at least, in theory). That "reachability" will increase as network addresses become more pervasive.

We know that the progression to 2.5 and 3G is a must - if it is not developed, then it will be impossible to pay off the spectrum debt.

There's this guy (you may know him >g<) who likes to say "Incumbents kill to live, and live to kill". I think he's right.

What position do you see the incumbents playing in this emerging scenario?

Regards,

Jim
