how close do you think Intel is to being a monopoly at this point? amd is a close competitor, going for a quarter of Intel's total markets. is this the kind of competition that can go up against a Monopoly? Intel also makes it easy for other companies to license x86 architecture to make compatible CPUs. VIA is one of these competitors, and due to Intel's licensing, they can compete for the same markets. Now what kind of a Monopoly licenses their bread and butter? You don't see Microsoft licensing Win32, do you?
and don't forget that I also own some shares of amd.
