I reckon it is a bit more of the letting you down gently process. Leak a little bit of negativity out when the market is closed over the weekend, to try to minimise the stock getting hit when the real picture becomes public knowledge.

Maybe. But recall that for many years Microsoft made a game out of beating lowered expectations and giving down-at-the-mouth guidance every quarter. Some analysts are claiming SUNW sales are running ahead of consensus. I don't think it's worth reading anything into Zander's remarks. He did explicitly state that because they're in a quiet period he wasn't going to say anything substantive.

I think it was just a routine all-boilerplate PR exercise mandated by the flack bureaucracy, entirely without content. Which may help explain why he looked so palpably bored in the video.

No It is truthful, The market sucks. But, if and (when) it comes back SUNW is the play in hardware.
