7:34AM Niles on SIA : Lehman analyst Dan Niles comments on SIA data; says that 38% year/year decline in orders was worse than the Sep decline of 29%; while still better than the low in August, these data suggest that there is no V-shaped recovery in semis, and that like 1986 and 1991, buying stocks at the bottom for year/year declines in orders might not work.

7:18AM Intel (INTC) 32.66: Salomon Smith Barney one of the firm's previewing company's mid-qtr update scheduled for Thursday. Analyst Jon Joseph believes qtr is running at the high-end of, or perhaps slightly above, the $6.2-$6.8 bln range given on the Q3 call; sees mgnt raising guidance to $6.6-$6.8 bln range.

7:00AM Micron Tech (MU) 27.16: Co and Hynix Semiconductor announce they will engage in discussions regarding a possible strategic alliance or other transaction. In note out late Friday, Lehman analyst Dan Niles predicted that ability to gain control of Hynix would be a huge plus for Micron.
