"Those dead kids were just awful. But it was a mistake, for which the IDF expressed regret." Arafat whom I do not like or trust expresses "regret" so what the hell is the difference? The innocent are dead on both sides. If you were the mother of those 5 kids would "regret" be enough?

This from today's FT:

"It's true that we have killed their children, too, and I expected a response like this," says Tali Golan, a 20 year-old cashier in a moment of empathy that has become rarer for both Israelis and Palestinians. I just do not believe that the government can do anything to stop this."

and this....
"There was even a sliver of political pragmatism to be found amid the shattered glass that littered the pedestrian mall. "A solution will only come through negotiations that will lead to the division of this land into two independent states" said David Avidan, a 54 year-old schoolteacher. "We must invite the international community, the US and the Europeans to solve this problem. There is no choice. The hatred is too great."

Btw, I would bet those two Israelis can understand Arabic and you can´t.

Now back to those two paragraphs from the Observer and internationalizing Jerusalem.... how does your Sudatenland example apply here and where is the appeasement? So far it seems to be... Israel takes and Palestine gives. Separation and internationalizing Jerusalem is the only solution.

I think you are missing something about the US too. Even in spite of September 11 I think there is a growing sentiment in the US against the tyranny of the Israelis. They are losing their humanity. Killing Palestinian kids is "regretful". I know that I was once very pro Israel but Rabin´s murder, Netanyahu´s hatred and fanaticism and Sharon´s stupidity and history have cleared my head. I don't have any great regard for the PLO but treat people as sub-humans long enough and you will get a very dangerous, dedicated enemy. The Israelis of all people should understand that.
