Jim It remains to be seen what values will be accentuated, and which will be dropped, in Islam's internal debate. There is no question that some of current Islamic belief and practice is at variance with modern values of universal tolerance. Do you think the vast majority of muslims anywhere give a damn what religion the guy next door has? As opposed to the 'official' muslims? I haven't found a historical example of religious totalitarianism spring up anywhere without it being directed by those in authority. Have you? Folk don't usually commit to a Perfectly Stupid Idea unless they have a terrible need. Normally, it takes months or years of indoctrination to convince people it's OK to kill any person of a specific kind.
