Seems to me that there are several problems that remain to be solved before any scooter-like conveyance could hope to displace the car to any significant degree. For example, there would be a need for massive infrastructure modification in the form of covered passageways to protect users from bad weather. Collision protection could well be another issue.

If I hit one with my SUV, I'll bet it wouldn't be "difficult to fall from or knock over". I'll bet I wouldn't even notice I'd done it. And anything going 17 mph around here is very likely to get run over.

I just bought my wife one of those "4,000-pound pieces of metal". If she uses the remote-start a few minutes ahead, the heated seats are real comfy when you get in, even when it's 5 below outside (like it was this morning). I'll bet that "Highly Touted Innovation" doesn't have heated seats, or a 6-CD changer, or a de-icer for the windshield wipers,or some other things that make life Easy for us aging Boomers.
