08:56 ET JP Morgan on Tech : JP Morgan's Doug Cliggott says tech group has very high P/E's and ambitious growth expectations; recommends that investors sell tech and buy consumer staples, which have more modest valuations and growth expectations (although big move in staples may be in Q1 2002). Thinks flat EPS growth next year is still optimistic.

08:29 ET Santa Clause Rally : Banc of America Sec thinks investors could come up short if they play into the Dec. "Santa Clause" rally too early; firm's analysis suggests that the final week in Dec has been responsible for virtually all of the month's outsized gains over time. While believes stocks will rise in 2002, feels the 1st-half may prove to be some tough sledding.

08:26 ET AOL Time Warner (AOL) 34.90: Hearing from sources that SoundView Technology is downgrading AOL to BUY from Strong Buy; citing decelerating subscriber growth.

08:00 ET Taiwan Semi (TSM) 15.93: Chip maker raises its 2001 profit forecast to NT$13.2 bln from earlier forecast of NT$11 bln.

08:00 ET Micron Tech (MU) 27.16: -- Update -- Merrill Lynch upgrades to near-term BUY from Accumulate with a $55 target; cites rationalization of capacity that would result if Hynix and Micron merge their DRAM operations.

07:18 ET Intel (INTC) 32.66: Salomon Smith Barney one of the firm's previewing company's mid-qtr update scheduled for Thursday. Analyst Jon Joseph believes qtr is running at the high-end of, or perhaps slightly above, the $6.2-$6.8 bln range given on the Q3 call; sees mgnt raising guidance to $6.6-$6.8 bln range.
