The Dome of the Rock, the first Muslim masterpiece, was built in 687 A.C. by Caliph Abd al-Malik, half a century after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (s). The rock marks the site from where Prophet Muhammad (s) made his Miraaj or Night Journey into the heavens and back to Makkah (Qur'an 17:1).

The Quran never says a word about Jerusalem or gives a location for the Night Journey.

But I bow to your wisdom, Imam Thomas.

Hi Thomas. You are unfair toward animals and history : Muhammed went to heaven with his horse.
Probably the same way people go to heaven with their wheeled wild horsepowered cars nowadays.
And of course he had to take of from Jerusalem.

No Jerusalem, no prophet. Nothing new, you have heard that one before, so they added the horse so that we can say holly horse... in arabic.
