Dan Niles on CNBC - his main points, well made, were that
1) Based on SIA and government data, the semi recession is not ending yet, in fact, October was worse than September. So we're just bouncing along the bottom, at best
2) Semiconductor Stocks are at 3x their historic "low" valuation numbers, i.e., PE ratios (possibly price to sales?), but
3)PC stocks are at historic low valuation levels -- so why buy semi stocks?

No mention of either AMD or Intel

Thanks for the report. Even Rothdeutsch doesn't expect profits for a year. Forward looking, AMD is at 1.5 x projected 2002 sales per share. I wonder how that compares with
1) historical P/S valuations
2) Intel
3) Semi stocks

Hard to find historic data on sales projections

AMD Puts $25 Million Account In Review.

So they promised a campaign by fourth quarter, and they're just now putting the business up for review. Unbelievable that Bob Kennedy still has a job. This process, from review, to selection, to storyboards, to approved marketing campaign, to film - will take at least four months, so don't expect any mind-blowing creative any time soon.

SAN FRANCISCO (AdAge.com) -- Semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices, Sunnyvale, Calif., has put its consolidated global account with billings in the range of $25 million to $30 million into review.

Bob Kennedy, AMD director of corporate branding, said the selected agency will handle work in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, Japan and Asia Pacific. The consolidated assignment includes corporate image advertising, channel advertising, online advertising and local advertising support.

Interpublic Group of Cos.' Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, Boston, was AMD's agency for domestic business since 1995, while Publicis Groupe's Publicis, London, was the lead European resource.

Select Resources International, West Hollywood, Calif., consultant in the review, said they were uncertain whether the incumbents would participate.
