To ask a different question - why did the September 11 terrorist attacks occur during a wave 3 of 3 down on the Dow off the May 22 highs? Bad things happen in bear markets.

That said, oversold and overbought readings have been meaningless for the last few months. Not sure what that means, except that for the time being, the rules have changed.
