Peter, re: "It seems that Duron prices are in free fall while Athlon XP prices remain stable...Duron 1000, retail price: Previous week: $75, This week: $49.98"

I have not been tracking Duron prices even though I will probably pick up a 1G Morgan. The data above seems "lumpy" either from being a single source that may not be updated or have specials or the lowest of a marketplace. I would put more faith in an average value such as JC's first page average from PW where the low is still at $59. The 1.2G which were announced a month back (?) are barely present at PW (less than a dozen entries and no page listing yet, search only).

I agree that Durons are very low cost which is bad for AMD but still very nice for some systems. I am assisting a friend in building a dozen very low cost systems for his children's school: integrated motherboards with Duron 900s (for $39@ from TCWO). They just need new, stable machines and the processor speed is not critical. The OS and HDD were the difficult pieces budget wise. Since they will supplement existing Pentium 200 class machines, they will be plenty fast for the intended applications for years to come and could be upgraded to faster CPUs.
