Hewlett-Packard ups note sale size to $1 bln

NEW YORK, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co. <HWP.N> on
Monday increased the size of its five-year global note sale to
$1 billion from $750 million, an official for co-lead manager
Salomon Smith Barney said. The sale is expected on Monday.
The Palo Alto, California-based company's notes are
expected to yield 1.83 to 1.85 percentage points more than
similar-maturity U.S. Treasuries. That's about 0.43 to 0.45
percentage points more than Hewlett-Packard's existing 7.15
percent notes maturing in 2005 were bid to yield on Thursday,
when the new bond sale first appeared in the market.
The sale is the first test of investor sentiment for the
printer and computer maker's credit since it announced plans in
September to merge with rival Compaq Computer Corp. <CPQ.N>.
Moody's Investors Service has cut Hewlett-Packard's
existing senior unsecured debt twice this year, most recently
in September to "A2," its sixth highest investment grade, with
a negative outlook. Standard & Poor's, meanwhile, rates the
debt "AA-minus," roughly two notches higher than Moody's. It,
however, has warned it may cut that rating.
Credit Suisse First Boston is also arranging the sale.
