SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 2001--
$299 End-User Pricing Will Enable CIOs Using Citrix/Terminal Services
Thin-Client Architecture to Continue Upgrade Plans And Improve
Security During Tough Economic Times
Wyse(R) Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-client computing, today announced that the price of its high-speed, high-performance Winterm 1200LE thin client, targeted at users of Citrix Systems' software, has been reduced to $299, making it Wyse's first sub-$300 thin client. This new price is made possible by continued growth in the thin-client market, and will make it easier for CIOs who have adopted server-based computing based on Citrix Systems' ICA, MetaFrame and WinFrame technology to continue with existing IT and desktop upgrade plans while staying within tighter budgets.
In addition to a new lower price point, Wyse also bundles every Winterm 1200LE thin client with its industry-leading Rapport(TM) Workgroup edition and WyseWorks(R) Remote Administrator management software, addressing the growing need for greater desktop security, simplified management and lower overall total cost of ownership. As a result of these reductions, Wyse's Winterm 1200LE Blazer thin client, the fastest ICA-desktop on the market, will have an estimated customer price (ECP) of $299, down from $409.
"Throughout this year, we have driven home the message that secure, managed thin clients can provide all of the benefits of the PC for most applications, and at a much lower cost," said George Skaff, vice president of worldwide marketing for Wyse. "This is particularly true for customers who have adopted Citrix technology, and chosen to deploy it to the desktop by using older PCs which are costlier to manage and more exposed to security breaches. The Winterm 1200LE is the ideal replacement at the ideal price."
Winterm 1200LE at $299 is Ideal for Citrix Customers
Currently it is estimated that there are more than 30 million licenses of Citrix's server-based computing software around the world. As many as 90 percent of these seats exist on PCs, ranging anywhere from a modern Pentium IV all the way down to an old 286 class PC. At $299, the Winterm 1200LE represents the best replacement choice for this installed base, particularly for older PC systems. It enables newer PCs to be moved into applications more suited to their power and function. The Winterm 1200LE creates a more secure, manageable environment, often with much improved ICA performance over older PCs, while eliminating desktop maintenance and other expensive IT costs. All of these savings in time, money and energy are possible without any change to a company's existing technology infrastructure.
The Winterm 1200LE leverages Wyse's super-thin "Blazer" technology and a dedicated ICA engine from Citrix to create a completely stateless appliance optimized for use in ICA environments. Unlike Windows-based terminals, the Winterm 1200LE requires no operating system and therefore no local management of the device, as all configuration and session information is always server-based. The Wyse Winterm 1200LE eliminates 100 percent of desktop management tasks while delivering the fastest ICA performance of any device in its class.
Secure, Managed Thin Clients
Wyse's secure, managed thin clients help maximize IT budgets while minimizing the risk of unauthorized access to mission-critical information. Winterm thin clients deliver the key elements of security - authorization, authentication, integrity and confidentiality - through four levels of security. This includes a first-level user-name and password security shield built directly into the thin client, protecting the server from unauthorized access, support for smart cards as a form of two-factor authentication and support for biometric authentication devices (three-factor) that verify the thumbprint of the user when access to the system is desired, the use of Citrix's Secure ICA protocol, providing up to 128-bit end-to-end encryption of an ICA data-stream, and the elimination of local storage that can be hacked or fail, causing important communication like e-mail to be corrupted, modified or simply not to be received.
Wyse's Rapport and WyseWorks Remote Administrator software arm businesses with a comprehensive management tool capable of handling up to 200 users in an installation and with the purchase of an optional enterprise upgrade, up to tens of thousands of users across multiple branch office and management locations. Management tools are core to protecting a business' investment in desktop technologies, simplifying tasks that would otherwise place a significant strain on IT staffs while ensuring maximum benefit from thin-client installations.
