The biggest problem that I see is not how to keep them from
hurting us, it is how to motivate them to perform as slaves given modern
attitudes; I suspect whips, cattle prods, etc. would not be supported.


Actually, in prison a basic principle is that work is a privilege, and most inmates see it as such. Between being cooped up all day in a 6x8 cell, or getting out and working, most choose work. So you don't really need whips and chains and such; just give them the choice of 24/7 in a windowless padded cell with no TV, no books, no nothing but their own thoughts, or behaving and working, I think you'll get most of them working
