There are several strong proponents of the humanist perspective that regularly post here...they may be boycotting over some recent "casting of aspersions." When they return maybe we can pick this up again.

Oh, okay, then no problem. I will say that though the Founders generally respected religion, as a promoter of virtue, their attitudes towards it as a system of belief were various. Also, it is ironic that the Founder responsible for invoking the Creator was Jefferson, the deist. Finally, a lot of the things I mentioned were not available at the time. Kant wrote published his moral theory later; the utilitarians developed their theories in the 19th century; and pragmatism, as a theory, did not evolve until around the early twentieth century.....
