No, no one was in a position to infer that I was making a point. However, I was the most prominent student of my time, and therefore everything I did was an object of conversation. (For those who don't know, the Annapolis campus of St. John's has about 400 undergraduates living on campus, so it is not as hard as you might think to gain exceptional prominence. Also, on the "watered- down" thing: they made the curriculum more rational, that's all. We still read too much, too fast)........
