Tom: Corporations have warehouses full of surplus goods they've yet to unload. Until they get rid of some inventory, where's their incentive to hire, to produce more. And I think it will be quite a while before people feel "confident that their job is safe"..even if they own the store. We've been in a recession and people are leery, not optimistic. At this point, after all the layoffs, downsizing, etc.; believing that pumping money into corporations is going to spur the economy is "irrational exuberance".
