Thanks for the info on the Christian perspective. I understand the basis of Christianity.

There are a couple of points which would help to clarify Islam for you.

"As far as I can determine Islam makes no such provision, and since the Law demands perfection, then all the Quran can do is damn those who follow that path to eternal destruction."

Islam recognizes this issue. We call God by many names one of them being "The Most Merciful." As with Christianity, Islam relies on God's Mercy not on the deeds of the imperfect man. The provision is God's Mercy which doesn't need help. God is all powerful. There remain however many requirements for the man during his lifetime. He must continually worship no God but God, repent for sins, and focus his lifes intent on the good. I've met a few pious Christians and have seen them behaving similarly. The main difference as you pointed out is that in Islam each man is responsible for the condition of his own soul. This is also true in Christianity but with the additional provision that Jesus act as an intercessor. The conditions for Jesus to act on your behalf is that you aggree to worship Jesus as God or in front of God as if God without Jesus is inadequate.

I realize the last sentence opens the door for lots of debate. The simple nature of God being the Alpha and Omega of the Universe (The All Powerful, All Knowing, beyond temporal description God) becomes compromised when thinking of Jesus the man as God. In addition, the priesthood and church as an extended provision have shown themselves to be quite inadequate. Of course you know that it all comes back to the heart and soul of the individual. I realize you see more to it than this.

I have studied this with an open mind and feel I have been adequately informed on the Christian perspectives (Many times). I have infact met Christians who feel exactly as I do about who Jesus is but continue to proclaim Christianity as their religion as a matter of patriotism to culture. I am not a religious scholar and am not up to debating the issues that distinguish the two religions. When boiled down the real differences are a hair line. Suffice it to say I do not believe that Jesus is God or a go between that requires worship prior to receiving God's Mercy. The Quran assures us that there are people of the book (Jews and Christians) who are true believers inspite of what appears to us to be irreconcilable heresy, and that the differences and reasons for differences between the religions will be made clear on judgement day.
