I certainly don't disagree with you about the past history of SS. However, I think we can gradually institute a plan to convert the existing system to an investment-based system. May take a generation, but you have to start somewhere. I also thought it was a good idea in the 70's, but it got very little airtime. Since then the SS taxes have been raised on an almost annual basis (either through rate changes or increases in base pay subject to taxation). You are correct, one giant ponzi scheme.
