Well so far, they are finnaly doing something, but they should keep it up for at least 2 months straight. At least, Israel will have some peace and quiet.

I like this new Colin Powell; for now:Powell: Sharon responding in way he believes is appropriate

BUCHAREST - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, responding to the latest upsurge of violence between Israel and the Palestinians, on Tuesday reminded them that "there will be a tomorrow and a day after tomorrow" during which they would have to live side by side.

At a news conference after meeting Foreign Minister Shimon Peres in Romania on the sidelines of an OSCE conference, Powell did not criticize Israel for attacking Palestinian cities - and hitting close to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's headquarters - after one of the most devastating waves of Palestinian suicide bombings inside the Jewish state in years.

"Israel at this moment is recovering from a terrible blow inflicted on her last Saturday night by acts of terror and Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon...is responding in a way that he believes is appropriate to defend his people and to defend his country," Powell said.

But people had to remember peace talks would be needed in future if Israelis and Palestinians were to live side-by-side in peace.

"In our conversations with Prime Minister Sharon we have also indicated that there will be a tomorrow and a day after tomorrow and we have to try to get back to a process that will lead to a ceasefire and to negotiations," he added.

"And so as one takes action and counter-action, always keep in mind that sooner or later, we have to find a way to move forward and as you plan your actions, take that into consideration," he said.

Powell, who sent his new Middle East peace envoy General Anthony Zinni to the region just before the violence erupted, said Arafat could do a lot more to rein in the militants.

"When I spoke to him on Saturday night I reminded him of that, that this assault was not only an assault against innocent Israeli citizens, it was an assault against his authority because he was prepared to work with General Zinni," he said.

"I made clear to the Chairman that he had to respond to the seriousness of this attack against Israel and against him and against the process of trying to get started and I think he needs to do a lot more than we have seen so far."
