My lights are on, but there's no one @home! When I got home last night, I had the link to the ATTBI home page, and was beginning to regret all those bad things I had been thinking about the folks at T. However, after running the configurator and re-booting, I was left with no useful access at all (either to the Internet or to my new e-mail). To be precise, I have access (the lights blink), but my computer's new settings are not correct. I called attbi, twice, and after negotiating the ACD and being forced to listen to several annoying messages about the recent bankruptcy of Excite@home (gee, there's a news flash), I eventually wound up at a recording with a single option (push 1 to hear general information about your new service from ATT broadband). After pushing 1, and listening to a few minutes of sevearl-day-old general information, I was disconnected. Apparently the customer service lines are so overloaded that they aren't even giving callers the option of waiting on hold for 3 hours! A mixed blessing, I guess.

This morning, I heard their representative say that there are a few "technical" users who cannot yet use the service. The "technical" users include everyone who uses a firewall and/or proxy server (guilty on both counts). As I have no idea how or when I will actually have a useable service (I am guessing days, but I suppose it could be weeks), I ordered DSL form Pacbell this morning. And I called my credit card company to bounce future attbi monthly billings and to reverse the last one.
