But somehow, those descriptions are not a very long way from my experiences in many countries, including the wondrous lands of Canada, USA and New Zealand where the cliches of freedom and slogans of liberty are boastfully and incorrectly used.

Ask Alan Turing about the wondrous liberties of the USA and Britain, for example. Is anyone in gaol for choosing to smoke dope or selling it to those who want to?

Freedom is a very shallow puddle in the modern world. You can't go surfing in it.
