Ah yes, the old "if you don't buy now, it will be "too late" argument. Too late for what?

If you look at the following chart, you can see that on previous cycles, waiting for equipment orders to start increasing was not "too late." There was still 90 per cent plus of upside left.

Picking the exact bottom is not a realistic goal, and P/S and P/B ratios are rich enough compared to previous cycle bottoms that a case can be made on risk-management grounds for preferring to be late rather than early.

Perhaps you're right that shipment delays could have been easily made up, but I think the shock of the attacks caused a lot of people, both in business and at the retail level, to pull in their horns in September, causing October/September comparisons to be suspect.
