I'm not sure if the barren lifestyle was good. He's lucky in that he has a very supportive family. Maybe just the fact that he is two years older has matured him, but he sure had a lot of time to think about his life. He was offered drug treatment programs when he was out of jail, but I don't think he had one while he was in jail. He was just smoking pot, so it's not as if he had a major withdrawal problem.
