Beyond that who knows? I have no idea re the eventual outcome as Mr. Kamen appears to be seeking to shift the entire transportation paradigm. I believe the Segway HT is just the leading edge of a host of varied tools and applications for the old problem of getting from A to B. Should Mr. Kamen develop a Stirling engine that doubles the mechanical efficiencies of today's internal combustion engines there's no doubt he will have a real impact on transportation in the 21st century. Indeed look beyond the battery powered system the Segway HT has now to a fuel cell power source using methanol, ethanol, hydrogen or other renewable forms of energy at very high efficiencies. Look here for the latest in fuel cell developments: #reply-16742317 The bottom line for Mr. Kamen is whether he can recover his $90 - $100 million investment and turn a profit in a reasonable time frame. He seems confident that he can and his track record supports giving him the benefit of the doubt. <<Further internet searching will find electric bikes (one mountain bike version) in the $500-$1000 range for those inclined not to want to peddle. >> Yep, I'm sure you're correct. But I also saw a pedal power Cannondale, with retro simulated wood grain frame, this morning that will retail for $2,000 plus. It seems folks will fork out for different strokes. <g> Where can one find a mountain to climb in Dallas? <BG> Jerry in Omaha
