Oracle and Dell Deliver Certified Database Configurations on Windows and Linux
Oracle9i on Dell PowerEdge Servers Helps Reduce Deployment Costs and Speed Time to Market for Businesses of All Sizes
SAN FRANCISCO, ORACLE OPENWORLD, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- (http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1159634) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news), the world's largest enterprise software company, and Dell today announced the availability of Oracle® Certified Configurations for Dell servers and storage. Available on Microsoft Windows and Linux, Oracle Certified Configurations for Dell are designed to help customers lower risk and speed deployment of the Oracle9i Database in a single node system or clustered environment.

The two configurations, the Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration for Dell and the Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration for Dell, will be available to customers tested, integrated and installed on Dell PowerEdge servers. By performing these functions in the Dell factory, Dell and Oracle help reduce overhead for customers and provide a low cost and reliable infrastructure.

Customer Success

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control System Command Center in Washington D.C. -- the center that manages air traffic control throughout the United States -- will implement the Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration for Dell as a central clearinghouse for the National Log, an essential FAA database that stores information about air traffic operations across the country. The system, when fully deployed, will support this vital operational data for more than 2,000 concurrent users in air traffic control centers across the country.

``The hardware flexibility and cost savings we have experienced with the Dell/Oracle solution have produced immediate benefits at the FAA command center,'' said John Kelly, project manager and senior database administrator with KENROB & Associates Inc., technical contractor for the FAA command center. ``The Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration for Dell enables us to take advantage of a highly available, scalable solution that has truly simplified our database implementations, allowing us to operate more efficiently.''

Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration for Dell -- For the Enterprise

Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters is Oracle's cluster technology for scalability, high availability and transparent access to applications. The Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration for Dell running Red Hat Linux includes support for the Dell PowerEdge 6450 server, Dell | EMC Fibre Channel switches and Dell PowerConnect 5012 gigabit Ethernet switches. For storage, Dell will provide support for the Dell | EMC FC4700 midrange storage platform.

``The Dell and Oracle solution provides customers significant value and is an important advance in enterprise database deployment,'' said Russ Holt, vice president of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group. ``These Certified Configurations offer businesses of all sizes a simpler way to deploy database applications within their infrastructures by integrating Oracle software with Dell servers and storage at the factory.''

Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration -- For Small to Medium-Sized Businesses

In addition, Dell is the first to provide the Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration for Windows and Linux customers on a single node. This configuration is designed specifically to meet the needs of small and medium sized businesses, and departmental workgroups within a larger enterprise that want the power of the Oracle9i Database, but might not have the IT staff or budget to conduct their own implementation. The Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration for Dell, available for either Windows 2000 or Linux, is factory pre-installed and includes support for the PowerEdge 6400 server.

``The Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration for Dell enables us to deliver reliability to the Windows environment and reach more customers than ever before,'' said Juan Jones, vice president, Systems Products Division, Oracle Corporation. ``By offering Oracle Certified Configurations on Windows with industry leaders like Dell, our mutual customers can benefit from unprecedented levels of stability and predictability of their IT infrastructure.''

Availability

Both the Oracle9i Database Certified Configuration and Oracle9i Real Application Clusters Certified Configuration are scheduled to be available from Dell in the U.S. beginning in January 2002, with a worldwide offering to follow.
